The Lexicon

Each headword and its subsequent definitions are listed under their individual pages. Words such as "melancholy" and "revenge", that used multiple parts of speech, have two entries on the page, rather than there be separate pages for each part of speech.

Words that have literal and figurative meanings are given separate definitions, but are included in the same entry.

Basic etymologies for each headword are included in brackets [ ], and are as follows:

F: French

G: German

L: Latin

ME: Middle English

OE: Old English

OF: Old French

S: Scottish
